Prof. Izhak Michaelevski

In 2016, Prof. Michaelevski joined Ariel University as a senior lecturer and principal investigator. His research interest is investigation of molecular and functional mechanisms of memory formation and its impairments by aging related cognitive disorders, as well as understanding fundamental aspects of information processing and storing by the neural system. The research is based on a new concept stating that a limited number of master regulators orchestrate the dynamics of signal transduction networks, responsible long-term chances occurring in neuronal activities underlying memory engram formation.

This research investigates molecular and functional mechanisms underlying learning, memory formation, and cognitive decline. Focusing on synaptic plasticity, signaling networks, and aging-related impairments, the study aims to identify key molecular regulators involved in memory deterioration, neurodegeneration, and depressive-like behavior.
